About Mani Rimdu Festival Trek

Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Trek is a cultural excursion of the Everest region of Nepal. Every year the Mani Rimdu is celebrated in Tengboche Monastery in the 9th Tibetan month. Usually, the festival falls during full moon time in the months of October or November.

Apart from Tengboche Monastery, Sherpa people celebrate the festival at the monasteries of Thame and Chiwong as well. The festival is observed for 19 days. However, the final three days are open and celebrated publicly. Sherpa gathers at the monastery and prays for world peace. People offer prayers on the founding of Guru Rinpoche. the first day of the festival.

After founding the Guru Rinpoche celebration, The second day is fantastic for outsiders too. Lama performs the colourful dance wearing brocade gowns and masks. Finally, the last day is a very funny and humorous day. People perform funny dances and chant prayers. Lots of trekkers and locals attend the festival. It is to celebrate the victory of Buddhism over Bonpo as well. 

Dates for Mani Rimdu Festival 

According to the Tibetan Lunar calendar, Mani Rimdu Festival for the year 2022 was on 8, 9 and 10 November. Mani Rimdu Festival is divided into six types of preparations. They are the construction of the sand mandala, wong (Empowerment), Chham (Dances), Ser-Kyem (Tea offering), Jinsak (Fire Puja) and Chinna (to find out lifeline). 

The itinerary of the Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Trek is similar to Everest View Trek. However, trekkers spend two nights in Tengboche. For two days, trekkers will relish the rituals performed inside the Tengboche Monastery. Parallel to the classical Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers will start their trek from Lukla and follow the trail on the banks of the Dudhkoshi River to Namche Bazaar passing by Phakding and Manjo. The acclimatization break is taken in Namche Bazaar. Usually, trekkers hike the Everest View Hotel. However, in this trek, trekkers trek to Khumjung Village and witness the vibes of the Sherpa festival.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal

Our airport representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel or any agreed hotel. All the trip details will be finalized. You are free to stroll around the hotel or Thamel area on your own after check-in. In the evening, the agency will host a welcome dinner for you. Overnight at Hotel

    Early in the morning, we will grab the packed breakfast and head to the airport. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is scenic and can be termed a mountain flight. You can see various mountains as well as the hilly landscape of Nepal. Moreover, the entire flight is legendary as you will be landing at the world’s most extreme airport, The Tenzing Hillary Airport. Upon landing at the airport, we will meet the rest of the crew members and start our trek to Phakding. The trail is pleasing with a gentle slope and downhill. You will have to cross the suspension bridges and a few small towns/villages. Enjoy the trail walking along the Dudhkoshi River. Overnight at Teahouse

      We will enter the Sagarmatha National Park today. After breakfast, we will start our trek from Phakding and stop for the lunch at Manjo. The place is also the entry point of the national park. Our documents will be verified and we will officially enter the world’s highest-situated national park.

      The trail today is amazing. It has more than 5 suspension bridges and green lush forests along with hamlets. The highlights of today’s trekking are the crossing of Hillary Twin Bridge and the first sight of Mt. Everest. After crossing the Twin Bridge, we will have to walk uphill. A few meters before Namche Bazaar, we will be able to get our first glimpse of Mt. Everest. We will check in at the teahouse/lodge in Namche Bazaar.

        Early in the morning, we will start our hike to Khumjung Village via Everest View Hotel. Normal acclimatization hikes on the EBC trail are up to Everest View Hotel. However, this is the Mani Rimdu Festival period. Therefore, we must visit the Sherpa people’s dense settlement the Khumjung village. We get to know the local festive vibes by visiting their village. We will again trek back to Namche Bazaar and rest. 

          We will follow the trail of Kyangjuma and Phungi Thanga to reach Tengboche. The trail is well-organized and full of green lush forests and suspension bridges. We will have to walk uphill, downhill and uphill again to reach Tengboche. Visit the monastery in the evening as today is the 20th day of 22 days Mani Rimdu Festival. 

                We will retrace back to Namche Bazaar following the trail passing by Phungi Thanga and Kyangjuma. Explore the Namche Bazaar more on this day. You will have enough time to roam around the town. It is a very beautiful town in a horseshoe shape overlooking the fantastic Thamserku and Kwangde mountains. Overnight at Lodge

                  We will follow the trail of Manjo – Phakding to reach Lukla. In the evening, we will bid farewell to our local porters and Sherpa. We will also hold a small celebration as it is the last day of our trekking in the Everest region of Nepal. 

                    We will take the flight to Kathmandu. You can stroll around the Thamel area for shopping or any other activities. There are many shops, eateries, bars, clubs, yoga, spa and meditation centres in the area. Today is a free day for you to explore the city. In the evening, the agency will host a farewell dinner for you in a Nepalese cultural restaurant. 

                      We will bid you farewell at the international airport.
