The Makalu Base Camp Trek begins which a scenic flight to Tumligtar from Kathmandu and an adventurous drive to Num. The trail also includes passing through Makalu Barun National Park which shelters many endangered animals like red pandas and snow leopards. The national parks also house musk deer, wild boar wild yak, Himalayan Thar, and more than 70 other species of mammal, 440 species of bird, and more than 3000 species of plants.
